Honesty: The Mask and The Escape Artist
You must find your true identity. You need to get through the mask to find your true identity. In wearing the mask, you live a life which is pretending. Eventually you end up believing in the mask yourself!
In your life you are in search of healing and to find your true identity to be whole and sound, to be substantial. Nevertheless, you do not want to face yourselves. You do not want to understand. You do not want to face the conflict and do not want to look at the reality inwardly. You may be convincing yourself that you have found resolution - that you are true in your search and quest for everlasting life. The mask is so convincing that you come to the point that you believe that you have found resolution, that you are whole and on the path of restoration.
The mask represents the projected imagery, the created concepts, excuses, and the reworking of the mind in order not to look at the pain and conflict so as to not take responsibility. This is the work of The Mask.
Therefore, the more that one invests into the illusion of the mask, the end result is that the mask enables one to become an escape artist; to escape from going the formula course of taking responsibility to establish the foundation for inheritance. “Let me escape so as to become unreal.” To become real means to face reality. The illusion which is sketched strongly into the mask is supported by the environment of the fallen[0] world. Therefore, the environment supports the excuses and justifications of the mind, which tells you that you are something that you are not, and that IT IS OKAY to be something that you are not. That something is false, which the world defines as being true.
Therefore, one can live an entire life of unreality, an illusion, and finding in the final moments that the clay mask cracks. The reality of one’s empty life manifests and shows up and there are only a few moments left to find resolution.
Now I say you must take off the mask, face reality, find out what the substantial steps are and to discover the loopholes in one’s character, the major aspects of sabotage in one’s behavior. You must find the strength, the will, the grace and mercy of God. That is the first step in healing. Then by regaining your true identity, you can become stronger, more whole, more substantial and find peace from within, not from without.
In the course of life, the process of the search is often more fascinating than the finding, which means that the fascination is so great in the learning, one can become a perpetual student to find comfort in the search and never have the find. In the find you must be responsible for what you then acknowledge as the truth. “Therefore, let me go from one seminar to the next, from one school of thought to the next, one ‘systemology’ to the next, because I am truly dedicated to the path of restoration.” The mask may be leading this structure of the mind to the perpetual search only to evade the finding. It is in the finding that you take responsibility, and in responsibility that you begin.
Therefore, be careful. Find the center of your soul, the clarity of your motivation. Ask, “Why I am doing this?” In the clarity of the motivation emanating forth from the original mind, one can understand if the search is in search of, or to evade responsibility. This is the mastery of the mask. The escape artist. However, the person does not know that he/she is escaping. They are truly convinced that they are finding and being responsible.
This is a very clever psychological discourse of the fallen mind. Raised, educated, trained by the master of deceit himself, the fallen Archangel[1] perfected, tested, proved over and over again, to be successful; the master of deceit and lies. Therefore, one must be crystal clear as to what is going on in the escape artist.
Let us understand these teachings, and inherit them in our souls, not just as a concept or theory. The real change comes when we have soulful contact with the living word. That living word becomes embedded into the matrix of your being and as such it rises up into resurrecting life and in that you begin to find clear direction.
Here is what happens in the mask and the escape artist: What is it like to be compulsive? What is it like to be an addict, to have a habit? Why does one become compulsive and have many habits? One seeks for the plateau experience, for the spiritual high. As such, one can believe that this is the substance of change in their character. You go to a seminar, hear an inspiring lecture, which is in all likelihood God’s grace trying to help and heal you. The illusion is that you believe that the experience itself is the foundation underneath you, which it is not. That experience is given to you. Without a real foundation you could find that when you leave the seminar, several days later you may be depressed again.
Now you find that you are struggling with the same problems as you were 20 years ago. When you hear words of truth, you must inherit them, so they become a part of your essential being. Often one will use an environmental experience as another distraction to not take responsibility… the feelings of alienation continue. Anger toward your own life, rage toward the memory of abuse and alienation from a life that feels whole. Alienation from brothers and sisters, and finally God. As this loneliness grows, it becomes ever consuming, until one feels empty and void of life. When you feel empty and void, the fallen mind and the mask initiates its school of education to guide you to the solution in the state of loneliness and emptiness; the state of feeling void of hope and inspiration. The fallen mind then says, “I have an answer for you.” Of course, not knowing who you really are to some degree, it becomes difficult to know whether you are being guided correctly or not. In the search of me, who am I, the world with various experiences can confirm and convince you that this way of thinking and behavior is part of the JUSTIFICATION. This is the way I am, the way God made me. I have the right to live this way even though this behavior is totally fallen. This is the justification for sexual distortion. This is what I am. I cannot change the way I am, this aspect of myself. Various psychological and false religious teachings support this conclusion. As such, that realm of knowledge becomes another distraction, so the person does not have to face the reality of the need to change.
Therefore, you may search and experience various high moments with brothers and sisters, what may be a fixation, as with an addict. You find that you are continuously compelled to find those given experiences because without them you feel empty and void, lost internally. Thus, you look compulsively for the plateau times, never building the foundation of substance. It is not that these experiences are wrong. When elders share and teach, brothers and sisters share testimony, these are good and true.
However, what happens afterwards? Are you feeling that this is how you are internally, as in a real foundation, that elated feeling? This is showing you what you can be; the potential of what you can be. But there must be a thereafter… a thereafter, in substance. “I will make that experience part of my essential being, as opposed to becoming addicted (to that external spiritual euphoria). In substance, I myself should be able to generate that experience for others, not becoming dependent upon the feeling of, ‘I must have that experience outside of myself, or I will perish.’ As such, the person develops a compulsive tendency, an addictive quality.
Therefore, the teachings are, confess thine own sins unto thine own heart. Be honest and sincere, and then you can be clear as to the motivation of the self. Thus, you search outwardly, not looking inwardly, and become addicted as an alcoholic. “What shall I do if the drink is not there?” One becomes angry and resentful, blaming everything except one’s own addiction. And let us be clear, the teachings are not saying that by hearing truthful words and by being in a good environment, that you are wrong. No, those things are right. Nor are the Teachings saying that one becomes addicted to a philosophy by the act of going because you go out of responsibility to create a good environment, and to attend, and to hear truth. However, if one becomes an escape artist, creating the illusion that by “going” I will be all right, all I need to do is put on good music and I’ll be okay… I do not need to be responsible on a daily basis and put into practice the tradition which helps me to enter into communion with God, to foster the good environment inside myself - then you will be let down.
When you avoid that responsibility, you begin to mimic the behavior of an alcoholic, a person addicted. It can be tricky. This means that you escape taking responsibility and never face the fallen self, facing your fallen nature to create the foundation to meet the messiah. I do believe that this goes on in many realms of life. Whether it is going to concerts, getting a buzz, a high, an elated experience - the deception of drugs is wrong. Going to a talk of truthful words is right. It is in avoiding oneself that one takes on a characteristic of an addict, in attending programs with the wrong motivation. “I am not there to receive the judgment of word, character and heart. But I am there to escape the judgment[2].” This means to take these words and to be judged in the practice thereafter with what you do with the truthful words. To experience the character of the True Parent, the beautiful example of parents, and to do nothing afterwards; not to forgive others as True Parents have forgiven us; to continue to judge - this is the escape. I go to service on Sunday but what do I do during the week? What is your life like? You ought to generate the experience of always being before True Parents so that the six days in between are filled with the love, grace, and mercy of True Parents. Therefore, do not hide in the mask.
True faith and a life of substance in spiritual pursuit means to be vulnerable. It means to have the trusting heart to be seen, that one’s fallen nature can be seen. Take off the mask that your fallen nature can be seen with a trusting nature. With loving family, there is not judgment; we should not judge, only One can judge. Let healing take place. It is the joyful giving and serving that does not breed resentment and anger. It is in progress and development that you can see your growth over the course of the years. It is not in the blaming of a person, a group or organization. It is about me. How can I become responsible and be at peace? It is trusting in God’s merciful love, not to feel that I must work myself into God’s forgiveness. It is true that indemnity, repentance, and an offering are necessary to receive God’s forgiveness. It should not be in the driven compulsive nature, the deep lacerations that bring forth the crippling guilt and shame that one lives and serves to appease and gain acceptance, and to find value. If another person lets you down and does not accept you, then what shall you do? Would you become angrier because you could not find acceptance? It is in the service of others that we bring resurrecting qualities to the spirit. It is in the surrender to the sacrifice. Sacrifice is self-denial. Internally one may resist it to the end. I fast, pray and witness etc., resisting it to the end. I look like I am sacrificing in form, I look like I am resurrecting, but I am becoming angrier with each year. Then I say: to surrender to sacrifice ignites the power of resurrecting inside oneself. Be grateful that you have the opportunity to do this.

This is the Essence of the Teachings:
- Do not look to solutions which seem permanent but are only temporary. Please be clear in your heart. Pull away from pretentious living, which only pulls you away from God. True Father’s life is a life course of coming to terms with each aspect of reality and taking responsibility to establish God’s way within that reality. You cannot do this as Father if you live a perpetual excuse.
- I spoke to you of honesty in self-reflection. I spoke to you of purity and innocence. You must be true and clear in your offering in the establishment of the foundation of faith. In this, God can help you and heal and resurrect you.
- To aspire to solutions which cause you to be irresponsible and to blame, to justify your fallen nature lifestyle, will one day catch up with you.
- To be freed by the truth is to accept with sincerity and honesty the truth of the judgment of word, character, and heart.
- Do not argue away the truth and misuse the Principle.
- Do not live with a character of deceit.
- Do not draw into selfishness, but seek purity, seek to have a character of honesty and humility. Seek to serve and care for others and to deny yourself with gratitude.
- I am speaking to you for your benefit, to awaken your Original Mind.
- I am teaching you so you can remove the obstacles to true love and the tradition of Heavenly life on earth.
- The more one escapes the responsibility, the more he fools himself.
- Escaping responsibility is creating the illusion of doing well when you are not. Telling yourself that you are well means that you must lie to yourself. In this deceit, the establishment of the Foundation of Substance weakens. This problem creates a pattern of not walking the path of indemnity but looking for answers to your problems outside of the Foundation of Faith and Substance. In this I tell you, your fallen mind will guide you to plateau experiences without having the responsible foundation underneath to support the experiences.
- You may be uplifted by the circumstances, an inspiring talk, which is God’s effort and heart to teach and to help you. The Fallen mind’s reasoning is that the experience itself is a sign of your stability and personal foundation. However, it is God’s grace. What do you do after hearing truthful words?
- Are you inheriting the words, letting them become part of your being? “Cast not your pearls before swine” means do not throw away that which is sacred. Do you cast away sacred words before the irresponsible behavior of your own self? Brothers and sisters please understand my teachings of Principle that you may awaken. That your original mind rises up in you, and that True Parents live in you. That is True Parents in substance, not only in concept.
- Do not say that you seek God internally but do not act with heart.
- Do not say, “I love God and True Parents” and then excuse yourself from caring for others, even those who hurt you.
- Do not say to yourself, “I am responsible” when you are dishonest within your own confession to your own heart.
- Please seek God with honesty, humbly accepting your fallen nature as your fallen nature, not as an extension of your justification of your fallen nature. Then your heart can grow and heal.
- Please seek God by taking responsibility for your sin and acting in a Principled manner. Love, forgive and unite. Please be responsible by:
- Hiding in a life of illusion is not living a life of faith.
- Lucifer[6] mastered the art of deception. He lied to himself first, then Eve. The entire world has inherited deceit internally through the internal justification of sin.
- The realm of True Parents is honest and true, therefore follow that example of life. Father tells it like it is. He tells the truth about the nature of the fallen mind and true character.
- You cannot be confused if you practice Truth[7] in your daily living.
